Egyptian voices: Nouran

A carefree, nonconformist changemaker, Nouran is the founder of Cairo Cycling Geckos, an initiative that shocked the entire Egyptian nation when she set off to cycle the unfriendly streets of Cairo to distribute free meals during Ramadan in an all-women-caravan, breaking social taboos. Setting off every day before breaking her fast, Nouran took on the daunting streets of Cairo's slums, cycling through traffic-laden bridges and roads engulfed in garbage, as she led her team to distribute meals for underprivileged people, not only during Ramadan but also afterwards, when she began giving out clothes and blankets. Parallel to that; Nouran is a travel, sports and dance guru; she is currently an active mobility coach & retreats curator. A certified specialist in applied functional sciences from Gray institute, USA.

In June 2022; I was selected as the only Egyptian- Middle-Eastern & one of 10 lucky girls from all over the world to complete the 100% Women World Record attempt on the Allalinhorn, Zermat, Switzerland. It was all about international women empowerment togetherness, and active recreation in a unique alpine setting. With the Allalinhorn, we ascended an impressive, but accessible 4000 meter high peak. The ascent is enriched with an attractive supporting program. Also it is swisstainable; together with Myclimate, we offset the climate harming co2 emissions of international travels.

I was also part of many documentaries filmed locally and internationally to showcase my work; the last film that I took a big part of; was called 'BIG LITTLE WOMEN'. It wasn't released on any platform because it was meant to be released only in Film festivals in Europe and Egypt. On the 8th of March 2023; on the international women day; our film was screened in the Aswan international women film festival and the film earned 3 awards. Best Egyptian film, Best euro-Mediterranean film and special feature from the jury.
