Summer training camp by the water and art by the pool
In autumn and winter, we mainly stayed in France and organised our training from our mountain on the outskirts of Paris, but for the summer we moved to Frankfurt, or more precisely to Höchst. We set up our training from the Höchster Schwimmverein 1893 e.V. there.
Roth Challenge as a short-term training goal
Located directly on the Nidda, it is both the starting point for our running and cycling tours, because of course training for Mareike's Roth Challenge is the focus of our activities in the short term. Swimming usually represents the most complex logistical effort here, but is completely covered by our 50-metre pool.
You couldn't wish for better conditions for an effective recovery programme.
Of course, we had to move part of the household to Frankfurt for this, where we rented a flat very close to the club for the season.
Since we train outdoors, we have to make do with pretty low temperatures at the beginning. On the first long day with a swim distance of 3000 metres, the water temperature was just 18 degrees. That can only be managed over this distance, with serious training, with neoprene.
As a board member of this club, I naturally first have to take care of the smooth running of this large club with its 3000 members, and have to subordinate my own training to that. In other words, my training effort is less than Mareikes'.
All the other tasks like finding sponsors, media work, logistics preparation, budget planning and our bread and butter work have to be done as well, of course.
None of this is possible without a clocked life.
Culture by the pool
Meetings with friends and social life currently take place at our pool. An extended cultural life is almost impossible. Here we have done some preliminary work in Paris.
We therefore have to let part of this cultural life take place in the training camp.
We will show new films, hold dance events and maybe bring one or two musicians or music groups to the bath.
The site lends itself to such events; certainly on a smaller scale than in 2018, when we organised a wide range of arts and cultural forms every day for three weeks in a row, from opera to theatre, music, dance and film, to discussion forums and sporting events, to celebrate our association's 125th anniversary.
On the other hand, the vitality of this association also gives us a lot of strength and optimism for our big project.
The many athletes around us also constantly give us new impulses through their curiosity and their questions, as well as their positive reinforcement. The press has also already become aware of us and we provide information about our thoughts on the project from this place by the river.
So the next few months are filled. After that, 4 more weeks in Paris and off we go!
